P. looking at A., 2017
What makes a work of art interesting? It is a very subjective question, and your answer will indubitably differ from mine. However instead of considering a reasoned response, I decided it might be interesting to look at how people interact with works of art. Contemporary art has sometimes been accused of alienating the general public, with works so obfuscate that they become extremely difficult to relate to the average human experience. In this video and photography work I play on this idea by observing visitors at art installations at Skulptur Projekt Münster in 2017. I imagine the installations are each like an independent, self-sustaining parallel universe, and the viewers are like alien visitors trying to comprehend their new environment.
